It is rare to see REMIT announcements coming out of Greece, but a recent update from the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water (RAAEY) has caught the industry’s attention.

On 11 December, RAAEY announced a new "ex officio" investigation into potential REMIT Regulation violations. Because the investigation was initiated independently by the regulator, rather than through a third-party complaint or whistleblower, details remain scarce. The announcement does not yet specify the nature of the behaviour or whether it involves the power or gas markets.

#### **A Coordinated Approach**

What makes this case particularly noteworthy is the involvement of the Greek Competition Commission (CC). On 9 December, the CC conducted dawn raids on several unnamed companies within the energy market. These raids are part of a coordinated investigation into the potential abuse of dominant positions and possible restrictive horizontal or vertical agreements.

This joint effort between energy and competition authorities mirrors a similar investigative trend recently seen in Germany. It suggests a growing focus on cross-sector regulatory cooperation to ensure market integrity.
